"Max Entries in File Browser" - Quick Clarification
« on: May 27, 2008, 01:19:36 AM »
Hello,

I am looking just for clarification as to whether the setting for the number of files in a directory includes sub-directories as well. For instance, if music is stored on the HD as "Genre\Artist\Album", are the the files in the Artist\Album sub-directories consided in the "Genre" folder when choosing a value for the setting? I have read the manuals and posts I could find on this subject, but have found no real specific info.

My HD on my player is getting close to being effectively full and so every setting I can maximize to perform at it's best is getting more important.

I have had no problems to speak of with RockBox and actually would not have even kept my old JBR (R.I.P.) had it not been for RB and all of the superb features it added.

I now have an IRiver H10 - 20gb with RB r16685M and a build of 080326 that has USB function incorporated in it so I don't have to use the "USB trick" when I wish to add or subtract anything from the player.

By the way, I notice you call folders "directories". I still do as well, hence the name,

Old Schooler.

Thanks

The setting only applies to the files and directories in the current directory, and does not include the contents of the subdirectories.

Right On!

So just as a follow-up, I would guess that the lowest value used or specificaly, one as close to the actuall number of files I should say, would leave more resources available for the player to use?

I must mention again how impressed I am with RockBox!

Thanks,

Can/should the Stats plugin be used to determine the Max Entries in File Browser and Max Playlist Size settings, or does it check sub-directories?  I use the default iPod/iTunes file system on my 5G 30GB iPod Video and the Stats plugin shows the following:

Files: 4544
Music: 3169
Dirs: 119
Max files in Dir: 108

Based on the above numbers, should I set Max Entries in File Browser to 150 and Max Playlist Entries to either 3000 or 4000?

Thanks,

yes the stat plugin can be used to determine this.

Setting the Max Entrys in Filebrowser to 150 and the Max Playlist Entrys to 4000 or 3500 should be save and fine for you.

Although the stats plugin is a little out of date and doesn't do all music types.  I'm in the middle of updating it at the moment.

What music types does it currently report on?
