iPodPatcher does not detect my 5th gen Video

(1/1)

McTwist:
Ok so I'm running linux and am trying to install Rockbox on my 60gb 5th gen video. The only problem is that ipodpatcher does not detect my iPod even thought it is running in disk mode and is formatted to FAT32. This the message I receive:

[INFO] Scanning disk devices...
[ERR]  No ipods found, aborting
[ERR]  Please connect your ipod and ensure it is in disk mode
[ERR]  You may also need to run ipodpatcher as root.
[ERR]  Please refer to the Rockbox manual if you continue to have problems.

I've tried different USB drives, restarted my pc, redownloaded ipodpatcher, and nothing I have tried works. Why is it doing this? Any help? Suggestions? And my iPod is supported, unlike the fifty thousand other threads I read whose iPods are not.

peace

Llorean:
I note you haven't mentioned whether you tried running it as root. Did you?

McTwist:
And how would I run as root, using the command sudo? If so, I put sudo before the command?

Here, is this correct?

cman@cman:~/Desktop$ sudo  chmod +x ipodpatcher
cman@cman:~/Desktop$   ./ipodpatcher

Press ENTER to exit ipodpatcher :

Llorean:
No, just "sudo ./ipodpatcher"

McTwist:
I GOT IT!!! What I did was type 'chmod +x ipodpatcher' and on the next line typed 'sudo ./ipodpatcher' and it worked perfectly. Cannot believe I couldn't figure this out.

peace
