i got a problem with the backdrop!!

hi im new at rockbox but im a pc geek and anyway im trying to get a differnt backdrop
then the one on the theme i downloaded and the manual says it needs to be in
16-bit and im wundering how do i change the pic from 24-bit to 16-bit
and im going nuts  >:( trying to figur it out so plz if anyone knows how plz tell me

Try opening it with Paint, do
'Save-as," and there should be an option to save as a 16-bit bitmap.

It doesn't need to be 16 bit - Rockbox will load 24-bit bitmaps, but will internally convert them to 16-bit.  The important part is that it must be the exact size (in pixels) of your device's LCD, and in order for the change to be persistent, you need to put the image in .rockbox/backdrops/
