rockbox problem
« on: May 23, 2008, 09:42:27 PM »
I just installed rockbox on Sansa e250.
It worked for 1 day, then when I turn it on, the blue circle lights up, but the screen remains black.  Also, the blue light never turns off again, and the machine is unresponsive.  Any ideas about what to do?

I tried to hold down |<< when turning on power, but that didn't do anything.
The only thing that works is holding down power, and the blue circle shuts off after a while.  But when I turn it back on, the same thing happens again.

Any help ?

Try putting the hold switch on and holding the record button while switching it on. It should allow you to recover the device.
After you recover the device try to reinstall rockbox.

OK, I tried that.  But that didn't change anything.  I just have the blue circle, and a blank screen.

Also, I tried to put the hold switch on, hold down the center select button, and attach the USB cable to the sansa, but that didn't work either.

Is this device a goner ?

Hmm, Could the display be damaged?
When the player switches on, try to press the play button to get a song playing in Rockbox. Its strange because you aren't even getting the boot screen from Sandisk.
Try e200tool (http://daniel.haxx.se/sansa/e200tool.html) to see if that helps. Read the warnings and I would definitely ask on the #rockbox IRC channel before I tried that.

If that doesnt help, then your player may be bricked.

EDIT: Sorry, I wasnt being clear enough, I meant, it could be bricked, but try e200tool to see if that can recover it.

Good Luck.

Please don't use the term "bricked" for recoverable errors. A brick is a device that is unrecoverable without special hardware, generally.
