RockBox Praise!
« on: May 23, 2008, 01:22:52 PM »
I really felt the need to say thanks to the developers of RB and this site.

You turned my (what I thought was a piece of crap) cheap Sansa e250r 2GB media player from a cumbersome limited afterthought, to a very useful and fun media player. I use it constantly now.

The Crapsody interface was horrible. The MP3 organization was confusing (by ID tags only), the video playback was constraining (huge MOV files only), etc., etc., etc.

Now I actually use the thing.

*I can make my voice recordings MP3s at whatever rez I want..
*play MPGs that are 1/3 the size of the MOV
*I can find my MP3s now. I just upload a folder, even if the files aren't tagged
*I don't have to see those crappy icons scrolling around

I will also find out soon about the HD MicroSD card. I ordered a 4 GB HDSC micro that will hopefully turn my 2 GB into a 6 GB player. (crossing my fingers)

Thanks again.

I also want to thank to you guys! I used my iPod nano 4G for about two weeks, and then left it in a drawer for a year because it was a drag to upload and organize all my mp3 on it... And now it even plays videos!!! :o GREAT! As soon as possible I'll donate a reasonable amount...
Good job, folks!

Yes, it's a nice piece of work, isn't it?  I also admire the amount of work that has gone into creating this firmware.

Troy92850: I use an 8GB microSDHC card in my sansa e280.  It now sports a very nice 16GB capacity!   ;)

Rockbox revived my interest in finding new music, especially since the .MOD codec was committed. My collection has swelled like a balloon; in less than a week I have a folder full of .MODs that totals almost 35* megabytes! And my searches led me to www.ocremix.org, a site hosting a number of remixes of game music (and everything is free to download!).

*(Most MODs are fairly small, at 100 kilobytes or less; and the biggest one I've seen is 832 KB, but it sounds like a 10 MB MP3! ;D )

I have to add my thanks to all involved!!!

I run Linux, and hated being chained to Windows to get full use of my Sansa e260 v.1

I had Rockbox loaded within the 1st hour I owned my Sansa. I could never get the Sansa media converter to work correctly. I dug into the Rockbox site and found the link to download WinFF for Linux and Windows. It worked effortlessly on the first try.
It even converted a full length movie into a .3g2 file, and it plays flawlessly on my friggin cell phone! (A Motorola Razor V3, with a 1Gb MicroSD card.)

So Now I have 2 portable media devices, thanks to the folks behind Rockbox!

Heck, I'd Rockbox my phone if I could!

What I don't understand is why the portable music player-developers never incorporate rockbox instead of wasting time and money on making their own, crappy software. I think the player would become far more popular if people discovered the possibility to modify the look and behaviour of their player to the extent rockbox allows.

Praise Rockbox!

I agree 100%.

I like the level of control Rockbox gives me over my device. The original operating system is worthless.

But without crappy original firmware, there would be no Rockbox. ;)

Remember... Rockbox started because one man (Björn Stenberg) was frustrated with the horrible firmware on the Archos Jukebox/Player series, and he decided to write his own instead. Thus, Rockbox was born.

So remember: crappy firmware on your player? Start a effort to port Rockbox to it!

Please don't use all caps.  The typical internet interpretation of caps would be the equivalent of yelling...not to mention it is very painful on the eyes.

You might want to have a look at the CustomWPS wiki page and learn to make them yourself.  Things always seem to be much cooler when I make them myself.  ;)

since the opportunity is here, i would like to also express my gratitude towards the RB crew. Thank you very much  :)

I have a c250 and it was initially a piece of crap (dam database refreshes ha ha). But now with rockBox, its become one of my most prized possessions. It was only the other day when i updated the OF to v1.0.07 and temporarily lost RB that i realised how awesome it is.  I must say, I'm completely happy with almost every aspect of rockBox. And the great thing is, if I'm ever REALLY unhappy about a feature (which I'm not ^^), i could always go and edit the source code ha ha

thank you very much again ^______^
