e260: European model/version number

(1/1)

Hi

I'm obviously keen to get a v1 e260 so that I can use Rockbox and I've found two UK online stores that are selling new e260s with the model number SDMX4R-4096K-E70 These ones have the FM tuner. They also have the non-FM tuner model number SDMX4-4096-E70.

I was wondering if I can tell from the model number whether those will be v1. I've noticed on sandisk.co.uk it doesn't mention v2 models and only lists new firmware starting with 01. whereas the US site shows both 01. and 03. so I'm hoping this means there aren't any v2 models being sold in the UK.

I've thought about just buying one as I could return it within 7 days under the Distance Selling Regulations for a full refund if it's a v2 but it has to be in it's original unopened condition, so if the box is sealed in some way I wouldn't be able to check.

There have been so many mis-identified e200's found in the wild that you can never be sure that the description will be correct. You are just going to have to hope the packaging is unsealed and then you'll be able to check the firmware version without any risk...

That's a shame but one of the suppliers is offering free postage, so I'd only have the return postage to lose.

Thanks for the info anyway.
