IAUDIO M3: Battery not loading

(1/1)

nabla:
First, thank you for your work, it really amazed me when first seeing what rockbox is capable of. :D  However, the problem is, that that feeling did not last long as the battery is not charged in my IAUDIO M3: I plug it in, the player starts, it shows that power is plugged in (by showing a plug) and the battery life meter is moving. But, even after about 12 hours, nothing has happened...  Any idea, a bug? Before rockbox, the charging worked, so -- in my opinion -- it is rather unlikely that the battery is broken.

Cheers

EDIT: replaced abbreviation

Llorean:
First, please don't use abbreviations other than those in our project glossary. This is for the people who don't speak English natively, as abbreviations run the risk of causing confusion.

As for the charging, as the IaudioPort page says, Power Handling is still rather incomplete and this behaviour is to be expected at this point. Just don't charge while Rockbox is running.

pixelma:
The power management code in Rockbox isn't finished on all Iaudio targets yet. This means that you can't charge when you connect from a running Rockbox and instead relies on the Cowon loader which is 'responsible' when connected to USB or charger from an "off-state".

I'm sorry, I don't know all the details and only have an M5 where this works a bit differently. Anyways, here's what the developer who did the M3 port told me how to charge it best:
* connect the player to USB while it's turned off
* with USB still connected plug in the charger
* unplug USB and let it charge
Hope this works for you too. I also pointed the developer to this thread, so he can fill in some details if he has some time.

Edit: He said that charging from USB (with the Cowon loader) should work too but probably takes a long time.

nabla:
Thank you for your information! The problem is that my player crashes when switched off and plugged into an USB port, I have to press the reset button. This is not caused by rockbox as it happened with the original firmware as well. I have no idea why this happens, it started some time ago... Is there another way to start the original firmware?

Thank you
