iRiver H430 Not booting up in the Rockbox firmware
« on: May 18, 2008, 08:30:09 AM »
Hi there,
I have just changed my hdd on my H340 to a MK8007GAH drive, 80gb.
I formatted the drive using: Partition Magic 8, from NTFS format to FAT32 & put all my music onto it fine.
The music files play fine in the iRiver firmware, but now I can't get the Rockbox firmware to work.
I had the Rockbox firmware working fine on the old 40gb drive, but now it seems that I can't get the Rockbox firmware to work on the new drive for some reason!
I followed the instructions fine, i.e downloaded the current build of Rockbox & put that on to my player & I also downloaded the original iRiver firmware & patched it fine & finally flashed my iRiver with the patched firmware, but now all I get is the Bootloader only on the screen.
I must of done something wrong down the line?
So can anyone help me with this problem I'm having?
Thanks.

What does the bootloader say?

Cannot find rockbox.iriver?

If so, there is a problem with the build not being on the drive correctly, or not being found.  Do you have a .rockbox folder in the root of your drive, i.e. H:\.rockbox\ (if windows)?  Note the full stop before rockbox, it is essential.  Inside this folder do you have a rockbox.iriver file?

Hi there,
Yes! I have the Rockbox in the folder (.Rockbox)
The bootloader says: Rockbox Boot Loader, Version 5, Batt: 4.14v & that's it.
I just thought of something, I formatted the drive with the bootloader still on the player, would that do something to the drive?
Thanks.

So you have a .rockbox folder and inside that rockbox.iriver?  Please try to answer questions exactly :)

Shouldn't do.

Hi there,
Sorry for the last post, as I'm new to this.
Yes!
There is a folder with: .rockbox on my player, but it just wont boot up in rockbox.
If I turn on my player then I can hear the drive start up, but then it stops & all I get is the Bootloader screen.
I have also left the player on for 10 minutes to see if it will boot up, but I still get the same screen.
Thanks.

You may want to do a search for "iriver" and "partition" in the forums.

I have a memory that there is a partition type that the rockbox loader does not like but the OF is OK with - maybe that is your problem.

If you want to try an SVN bootloader, there is a tested h300.HEX file in the CFMod wiki page.

Other than that, I have no idea. It really sounds like the issue I have with my h380 with current SVN, where V5 works fine for me. Weird...

Hi everyone,
Thank you the the information.
I gave up with it last week so I gave my iRiver to a friend at work & he got Rockbox working fine, now I have a iRiver H380 :)
What he did:
He merged the partitions together & formatted the drive to a primary drive on FAT32 & Rockbox worked first time.
Thanks again for your help.
Regards Tom.

You never told us that your iriver came up as two drives, did you? Good to hear it works now
