Any interest in porting ROCKbox to a Reddmango Angora VX435?
« on: May 13, 2008, 01:50:15 PM »
I have recently bought this Portable Media Player, and the firmware leaves something to be desired, there's no updates on it's website and I think the hardware would be better with decent firmware. So I feel that RockBox is the way to go.

I have knowledge in c and assembler, it would just be nice to have some help. So if anybody else has this pmp and wouldn't mind lending a hand that would be nice, if not, I could just hope for a decent firmware update to be released by reddmango themselves.

Either way :)

I did read them. I wouldn't expect anything of any of the developers. I was just getting an idea of who had this device, and what skills they had, that was all :). If this thread is in the wrong place, can I or a mod please delete? Thanks

Right, after some extensive research and taking this sucker apart I have found the following hardware inside:

Media Processing Unit: Sigma Designs RealMAGIC 8M8511S
Memory: 2x Winbond W9812G2GH-6 SDRAM chips
USB Controller: ALI M5637
LCD Controller Chip: SST 39VF010-70-4C-B3K *I think*
EEPROM: Winbond w19b320 *I think*
Storage: Hitatchi 120Gb laptop sized HDD
Audio Codec?: Wolfson WM8750S

That was a tough job, but I guess it's a huge step towards getting a decent firmware on this baby.

There were smaller chips on the mainboard too, but I didn't think they were that important as yet.

I'd like to remind everyone that while it's great that you guys are starting to gather some information, the wiki is the best place for static information.

So any findings that you have now should be listed in a new wiki page.

At least the PDF mentions the CPU to be a 200MHz ARM.

I'm interested enough to have bid on a Aigo 232 (which is apparently the same thing) on ebay...

Created a Wiki Page now http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/AngoraVX435. Spent most of the day finding datasheets and discussing things in the IRC channel. So the wheels are definately in motion now.

I hope you mean the Aigo E235, because that's the one that's the same.
