Question about interface on IAudio X5V

(1/2) > >>

Hi,

I've just got an X5V, and after transferring my music files to it am disappointed to find out that they display in alphabetical order by file name, so that I could have to scroll through 4000-odd file names to find the one I want to play. The manual (Iaudio manual, not rockbox) appears not to mention this in as much as I can understand the poorly-written manual, and so I am wondering how to get round this problem. Ideally I would like an Ipod style "artist/album/genre" sorting system that could set itself up from the existing tags (tagged in winamp - probably ID3 but I have no idea really). Would rockbox do this? I would have already installed rockbox but for the fact the latest version is listed as not stable, and so I will wait for confirmation that it will improve the interface in the way I want first.

Cheers guys.

Apologies if the answer is clearly written in the rockbox manual but after spending 30 minutes looking through it I got half an idea the "database" mode might help me but wasn't sure exactly.

LambdaCalculus:
Rockbox has a Database that does everything that you're asking. And the manual page for it is here.

nls:
Installing Rockbox on an iaudio x5 is very safe and you can always go back to the Original Firmware if you don't like it.

Out of interest, where does it say it is not stable?  I would have called the X5 port one of the more mature ones.
