Rockbox ideas... (Proposals wanted to inspire the DEV's)
« on: May 05, 2008, 07:24:19 PM »
I thought it could be nice to have a thread collecting ideas for future development of rockbox... I love it... i use it nearly every day... and maybe we (all the users) could collect some ideas for the future, discuss them between users and developers... and maybe some of them get into development...

So here are my ones:

* Songbird extension (Any ideas)
I use Songbird as my favourite player on OSX (Open Source, etc)... It could be nice to have a direct connection
between Rockbox and Songbird if you connect your Player (Version display, Rockbox styled Interface)

* Rating Star's I would love to rate songs and see the stars in the Browser of Rockbox... Also i would be very happy
to sort the display in an alphabetical, rating or whatever manner in an easy way in rockbox...

So i hope this proposals are not totally crap...

Greets Angry!

1) Feature requests belong in the "requests" portion of the tracker, by way of the links on the left.
2) A songbird extension would be absolutely and entirely something to request of the songbird project, not Rockbox.
3) Most developers have their own ideas for what they want to work on next. The very best way to see something happen is to work on it yourself, if you feel strongly about it.

Wow,you are fast... could you please move the thread?

Edit (see the post beneath): But thats not a board? so i think talking about ideas is impossible. I didnt want to make an request... I thought some people could write down some ideas "very unsharp".... And making the "Songbird proposal" in here could also make sense because some of the rockbox users could also have the skills to write an extension (Java, Javascript)

Yes i know theres an option to sort in a different way... but as i said... displaying the stars or maybe have a better (direct access) way to sort them could be interesting without editing anything (tagnavi)

I really wanted to hold that whole thread positive... I even dont like the word "Requests" instead of that i prefered "Proposals"... but maybe i was wrong... Sorry i just thought that could be a good idea

There's nowhere to move the thread to. The feature request tracker is not part of the forums. It is a bug and patch tracker specifically for individual tasks (bugs, patches, feature requests). You should limit one request per entry, and please search first to make sure your ideas aren't actually things Rockbox can already do, and to ensure they haven't been requested before. For example, you can alter the sorting in the database quite a bit by way of modifying the tagnavi file. I'm not certain, but it may also allow you to display the rating in the list. It's not something I use.

Take a look at it.  You can post there.

Please don't edit in responses to later posts, it makes reading the thread in order almost impossible.

I'm speaking only for myself here, but I think brainstorming about possible Rockbox features is better done here than in the feature request tracker. After all, this is the "general discussion" forum.

Agreed. The problem with Forums is the same problem that exists in general issues. Too big and too sprawling. Too many subjects to carry.

Rockbox idea... Oscilloscope + Chopper
I dont know how possiblie this is but i was thinking it would be a interesting idea to combine Oscilloscope and Chopper together so that the chopper goes through the oscilloscope.
This could be used as another level type on the chopper game. But i was thinking it might not work when there is no sound the cave would be very small unless it was enlarged so the chopper could fit through the middle.

ha ha awesome idea! on recording targets there might even be user-defined levels of oscilloscopic madness.

Of course the easy workaround would be to have an average cave size and use the waveform to superpose variations around that.
