Slow song skips on Toshiba Gigabeat F40

(1/1)

Nikias:
So I put Rockbox on my Toshiba Gigabeat and it works great, no problems on install or getting playback working or anything, one issue I am having though is really slow skipping. I'll push the skip button and sometimes the next song plays instantly but sometimes the current song will continue to play for as long as 10 seconds before bringing up the next one. I am playing on random (as I usually do) and I'm thinking it's most likely just taking a while to find the next song on the hard drive, so my question is less what is causing this and more what can I do? Are there any tweaks or settings I can use to make songs load faster, perhaps an option to pre-cache the random songs or something like that? I've looked around through the settings but couldn't find anything. Thanks for any help you can provide!

Do you have directory cache enabled?  That can make a big difference.

Also, which build number are you running?

and sometimes older bootloaders also give speed problems with newer builds. Just make sure you have the latest one.

The directory cache fixed it! Haha in hindsight I probably should have been able to figure out that myself  :-\ I'm destroying my own Linux nerd cred.

Such a big difference between with dircache and without is really suboptimal though... Someone (meaning I, of course ;)) should look into it.
