Not all songs get showed on rockbox

(1/3) > >>

eekhoornstaartlolly:
recently I just downloaded the nice discography of led zeppelin. I really love it, and I put it on my ipod.

When I synchronised my ipod, all the songs were on it because there was as much space used on my ipod as on itunes. Though some songs (mostly half of every album) doesn't get showed in rockbox.

I'm now trying to refresh the database (which I always do), but recently there ain't a list anymore of how many songs are already updated and it only shows the countdown to 9 when I reboot the ipod.

Well it worked now, I waited a long time to be sure that all my songs were updated. though song of the songs are still missing so i should wait longer the next time.

does anyone have an idea how it comes that the counter of 'so many songs have been found' and after that he asks to reboot. because it's pretty annoying to not be sure when to reboot the ipod

Gareth Schakel:
it would help greatly if you could tell us what generation of ipod you have, and wich version of rockbox your running.

There never was such a list. You get the progress shown if you initialize the database, if the database is updated in background (i.e. if the database updates automatically upon boot) there isn't a progress shown -- and never was. You still get the progress if you initialize it manually.

eekhoornstaartlolly:
yes that's what i meant a progress when you start the database.
and srry, i have a 5g ipod. 30g

I still think it's strange that I can't get in fully synchronised, when i start it up I see that some songs are missing because on the ipod 15.72G is taken, while in itunes I have 15.83 or something (just music)

how come this happened?

Are you really sure files are missing? Those number don't necessarily tell you that there are missing files due to several reasons:

* there are two kind of G prefixes around: the 2-based G (which equals 2^30) and the 10-based G (which equals to 10^9). You usually will find those for hard discs -- hard disc manufacturers use the 10-based G, so 1GB equals to 1000000 bytes. This is in fact the real correct notation (as G is the SI prefix "Giga"). On a lot of other places the term Giga refers to the 2-based G, which is 1024*1024*1024, so something bigger. This has been standardized by the IEC as "Gibi", but most software still labels it as "Giga". So there is a difference.
* it's possible that your computer didn't update the field holding the free space on the player correctly. In that case Rockbox will show the free space incorrectly.
* also, there's usually a difference between the real size of a file and the space it requires on disc. FAT is organized in blocks, and a block is either used or not -- while you can create a file that has a size of 1 byte this will always occupy a complete block, which is usually 512 bytes. Please make sure the files itself are missing on Rockbox. It's also possible that the files are only missing from the database -- they could have missing / broken tags and therefore show up at a wrong place.
