Buggy Upgrade Problem
« on: April 29, 2008, 10:20:55 PM »
(scroll to the bottom for my questions ^^)
Hello,

I've been using rockbox (on my e260) for a long time, and have loved every minute of it. Recently (just 10 seconds ago) I attempted to upgrade to the latest revision, and, it loaded up fine. When I went to plug in my USB to charge it, the 'USB Connected' screen flickered, and then it faded to white. A few other things I tried did the same thing (not all though. I was able to play an mpeg and a gameboy game)

I'm personally going to blame the outdated bootloader I'm using. It's as old as my rockbox firmware, if not older. (It's still the revision that it would fade to white partially right before loading OF) I'm not sure if there are different initialization routines or what.. Do you think this could be the problem? Even if not, I would like to upgrade the bootloader anyway, but I ran into a roadblock.

1) I'm unable to find the bootloader to download on the site, standalone. So I'm unable to update it like I normally would (Put firmware in root, reboot into OF, let it flash itself, reboot again)
2) RBUtil requires a fresh OF install, and as I'm on a new computer, I don't have a copy of the original mi4 (nor my development environment, or anything..)

So, in short:
Would an old bootloader be causing this? Where can I download the new one (or do I have to build it myself)? And is a fresh OF install *required* for a new bootloader (or is it even just good practice?)

Thanks for your time and consideration, I really appreciate it!

Sincerely,

zinmirai

Can you tell us what version the bootloader says as it boots?

I am guessing that you are correct as to the source of the problem.  See here:

From the splash screen:
Rockbox Boot Loader
Version: unknown-071211

I'll probably attempt the vanilla OF installation tomorrow and see what happens. At least someone thinks that's the cause of the problem too :] thanks. Guess I'll have to live without my music for a day (It's all in ogg so.. haha) I'll update this topic with the results for anyone else that has a similar problem, Thanks for the help!

Sincerely,
