Olympus m:robe 100 "FATAL(...) /004"
« on: April 29, 2008, 01:19:07 PM »
I received this message "FATAL SYSTEM ERROR SERVICE REQUIRED /004" and read about it here: http://www.mrobe.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=2792 followed the instructions on that site and got it fixed (had a working player then, but warranty will be voided now). I installed rockbox and it worked fine.
Now i got the message again and can't do anything with the device. From the link above I deduce it is a hard drive problem, and for that reason i am posting here. I want to know
1. If there are similar hard drives to the Seagate ST650211FX (replace broken hd with another one)
2. Where to buy one of the Seagate ST650211FX (replace broken hd with original).
3. If buying a new Seagate ST650211FX is cost-effective, because my device only cost 35 Eur so that budget shouldn't be exceeded.

Try Googling the drive. I've seen them on ebay and in US there are factory recertified drives for $9.95 here.

Alternatively, you could *try* using a CF card with a flex adaptor. I'm not 100% positive this works, so it could be a waste of money unless you have a CF card lying around. The OF might not work with a CF mod, but Rockbox has been run successfully on other CF mod'ed devices. The benefit is no moving parts and CF cards come in higher capacity that the original 5GB drive (depending on how much you want to spend). This is on my list of things to do...maybe in a month I could tell you if it works.
