30 GB ipod - is rockbox the same as my iriver

(1/1)

20phileagles:
I recently installed rocbox on my iriver and fell in love with it all over again.Thanks. I also found an ipod 30 GB. I want to know if I will be just as pleased with rockbox on the ipod as well. I guess my question is , is it exactly the same interface no matter what you install it on.  If I'm posting this in the wrong one again, let me know or redirect me please. Thanks for your time.

bluebrother:
Rockbox tries to be as consistent across targets as possible. This is unsurprisingly limited by the hardware (so no, it's not the same interface -- for example, the Iriver doesn't have a click wheel, but as Rockbox tries to be as consistent as possible -- yes, the interface is the same).

You should be aware that the Ipod is a completely different hardware architecture than the Iriver (unless you're referring to a H10 -- unfortunately you didn't tell any details). So some things might work better, others might work worse.

Generally speaking, it's likely you'd be "just as pleased". Of course you need to judge about that yourself ;)

Funny, I was just coming here to post kudos for how awesome it's working on my 30gb iPod Video :) I had used it happily on my iRiver iHP-120 for a long time.

I used iTunes and the original firmware for almost 6 months, and it was okay on the iPod, though obnoxious on the desktop. The first time iTunes corrupted its library and had to start over from scratch, I was annoyed... the third time was this morning, and I uninstalled it, wiped the iPod, and downloaded rbutil.

WOW. I am totally blown away by the progress in installation and functionality. Thanks, rockbox devs!
