iAudio M3 Display corruption when playing MP3's
« on: April 26, 2008, 09:56:49 AM »
I just installed RockBox on my M3; I don't have any other choice but to use it actually, as the default firmware refuses to recognize the CompactFlash card in the CF to IDE acapter I got to replace my dead harddrive (reads the firmware from it though).
Problem is, when I play a song, the screen goes all funny like there is some sort of interference running over it, and most of the time just goes blank after a few seconds. It keeps playing songs fine though, and listens to the controls for next and pause and so.
I really hope we can work on a fix, because I can't really use it like this...

This sounds like the bug report in FS#8840 - iHP120 remote LCD goes blank after some while ... LCD driver issue?? which has also been confirmed for the X5 - or better - Iaudio remote, it's the same for the M3 and M5.

The problem is that it only affects some remotes and the developer didn't observe the bug on any of his but of course he's aware of it. One thing you could do is to follow the bug report and if there's something to test, help out with it. Not sure when this will happen (time estimates are almost impossible in such a spare time project) but I also pointed him to this thread.

Sound like the same thing, yeah. Thing is, for an M3 this is a very severe bug as you can't really use it when your only display fails on you :) I hope the status can be changed to severe, even though I seem to be the only Rockbox iAudio M3 user out here. And maybe Jens Arnold could try lowering the speeds again, or maybe someone could tell me how to it myself: i know some C++ so I should find my way around compiling Rockbox, just have to be pointed what and where should be changed.

Okay so compiling Rockbox and reading the code is not that hard, just tried it, I can manage that. All I need now is someone to point me where those LCD driver speeds Jens talks about, can be changed. I've mailed Jens Arnold himself, but no reply yet.

Please, is there anyone here who can help me? It seems like this issue is not a big matter for anybody else, as I appear to be the only M3 user around here.
I've just spent 40 euro's on a decent 8Gb flashcard sort of counting on the fact the Rockbox LCD issue would be resolved, so I hope someone will take the trouble to at least try to explain me what I have to look for.
