Deleting old iTunes songs on Rockbox-enabled 5.5Gen 'Pod??
ImagoX:
Hey all!
Well I finally pulled the trigger on a lightly-used 30GB iPod Video (5.5 Gen). The Rockbox OS is on, and I'm sending my MP3's to the player as we speak - so far everything looks fantastic.
One thing though - the previous owner put a few album's-worth of songs on the player using iTunes, and none of those files are showing up in Windows Explorer (that I can find, anyway) when I browse the volume. As I have about 25GB of files to send over, all straight MP3s, I'd like to clear off anything I don't need.
Will I be forced to download and install the dread iTunes software to access and delete these old files, or is there a way to browse the songs downloaded via iTunes some other way?
Thanks in advance!
Domonoky:
hey,
the music itunes puts on your player is in the iPod_Control (or similar, cant remember the exact name) folder with obscure filenames. So just delete the whole content of the iPodControl folder to remove all Music Itunes put on..

Will there be any fallout form deleting that folder? FYI - I plan to VERY OCCCASIONALLY download iTunes video files (possibly) and I know that the 'Pod can be booted back to the Mac OS to play them - will deleting this folder break later use along these lines?
PS - thanks for the reply!!! =)
PPS - I don't seem to have a folder by that name. I have the .rockbox folder, as well as Calendars, Contacts, Notes and Playlists. Plus the foldders I'm copying to the root of the volume, of course.
LambdaCalculus:
The iPod_Control folder is hidden, so set your Show Files settings to "All".

Ah! I thought I'd had it set to show Hidden FIles but I guess not - I see it now. In the ipod_Control folder are subdirectories for Artwork, Device, iTunes and Music. Browsing in these folders is not helpful, as iTunes "helpfully" scrambles the files names and puts things in dozens of sub-folders. if I JUST want to delete old music and related files (album art, for example), but do not wish to cripple the Apple OS for later use, should I delete the entire ipod_Control folder as indicated in the first reply, or should I delete some or all of the sub-folders in the Control directory? NOTE that I will make a backup on my PC just in case, but I know that even doing that is no guarantee that the files/folders can be manually restored on the device (I assume).
Thanks again!!
