line out at iriver h340

Sorry, if that is a stupid question, but I tried the line out of my iriver h340 today (just bought it recently on ebay). I noticed, that I could change the volume like I can with the headphone out. Is that normal? I remember from other devices (archos jukebox, technics cd player etc.) that the line out just gave a constant signal that couldn't be altered by the player.
Hope the question isn't too stupid.

Unfortunately this is simply an aspect of the hardware's design. Just change the volume in Rockbox to 0dB when using it for line-level output.

For exactly that reason I have two cfg files in the root of my player to quickly switch between headphones and line-out settings.

Beware of using headphones while using the line-out settings, it hurts!
