iPod 30gb video 5G conversion to fat32 problem

(1/2) > >>

lifeisloud:
Hi all,
I started following the instructions listed here:
http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/IpodConversionToFAT32
I got to step c) on the manual conversion and my iPod died.  I went and followed the disk mode instructions but nothing is working, it said "OK to disconnect" when it wasn't connected and when I connect it is says "Do not disconnect" yet will not appear on the computer.
What am I doing wrong? Is there any way to get it back? When I unplug my iPod it just goes to the black apple logo and I can hear the hdd click as it continually resets.

Thanks in advance for the help

edit: I turned on itunes, the ipod connected and itunes said it was corrupt and offered to restore it. I did this and its updating all my music back on it now.

I'd still like to give RockBox a shot but for some reason I'm having difficulty with the formatting of my ipod to fat32 without using a PC

zajacattack:
Well, I highly recommend you use a PC.
Otherwise, you can tell us exactly how you followed the instructions and perhaps we can see if and where you went wrong.

Llorean:
PC stands for personal computer. I hope you're both aware of that. Computers running MacOS, Windows, or Linux are all PCs. Please, use clearer terms.

Steve Jobs might argue that ;-)   http://www.apple.com/getamac/ads/

Llorean:
I'm sorry, but Apple doesn't define whether or not PC still means "Personal Computer." It has meant that for decades, and a recent ad  campaign doesn't change the term.
