Am I the only one having problems?

As of the time of your post more than a half dozen new builds had been made available via the current build page. They probably didn't resolve your problem, but it's important to know that your build is very definitely not the latest, especially for future bug reports.

I used the installer and it downloaded what it indicated to be the latest build.. Should I be getting my builds some other way?
Llorean:
At what time/day did you use the installer? The current build, right now is 17211 as reported by RButil. The last daily is 17202, which is still newer than the build you have installed on your player.
Are you certain you finished the install, or did it within a rather short time period of your post?

last updated it yesterday, havent done it yet today... wanted to get some feedback before i wear out the usb port uselessly spinning my wheels.. As an aside note. I just rebooted *again* and it has played 3 songs with no problems (yet). The only thing I can think of that I did differently was to select a different set of songs (all my songs are MP3). The ones I was selecting before that it failed on work flawlessly in the OF. Will try to play one of them after I see how long it will play the current selection. Are there issues with MP3's ? Perhaps possibly corrupt ID3 tags? Clutching at straws here - Would REALLY love to get this working reliably.

Then as a note for the future: Be aware that when reporting a new bug, a day or two old isn't "the latest". An average of 7.5 builds are released a day, meaning even 2 or 3 hours on busy days can mean you're a dozen builds behind (that 7.5 is an average total across the whole life of the project, speed has been increasing). While it's unlikely a new change has fixed it, when you're first reporting a bug, you WILL be asked to update to the current version and see if you can confirm it's still there before things go on.
As you have a 3G iPod, it may be issues specific to your hardware (no/few developers have one of these, so most testing has to come from users, this also means that if it's a new problem we're somewhat dependent on the users experiencing to track down exactly which revision this problem began with).

Appreciate the response, but you misunderstood the origonal message (perhaps bad wording on my part). I was not attempting to report a bug. I was requesting additional info and illiciting responses to confirm/deny that this is not a known configuration problem. Since no one else appeared to be complaining about this I was (am still) assuming that the problem is on my end not really the firmware. Although if few developers have / use the 3G a hardware specific bug it might be.. Note: The previous selection played flawlessly but when I selected one of the songs that I origonally was experiencing the problems with... 1/2 way into the song it happened again. If this is a bug, I will need to perform a few more tests to attempt to find a repeatable set of steps to cause this reliably on other 3G's.
