Ipod not formatted - rockbox still working
« on: April 21, 2008, 07:50:42 AM »
Hi

I'm having a major problem with my Ipod (5th Gen - 80gb). I used Rockbox for about a year without having problems.
Last month I updated Rockbox on it. It worked for one or two weeks, but now I can't access the Ipod anymore. Whenever I try to use it (eg. to put some music on it) I get the error "this Ipod has to be reformatted, otherwhise it won't work with Windows - connect it to itunes to rebuild it".
The strange thing is, Rockbox works properly for music playback as long as the ipod is not connected to my computer.

What can I do? I still have some important things on it (I used it as a second external hd) which I don't want to loose when I formatte it ...

Thanks a lot in advance ...

Sounds like your partition table or filesystem is messed up. If the Ipod appears as drive on windows (kill all Itunes processes, put the Ipod in emergency disc mode and then connect it to the PC) run chkdsk /f on the Ipod.

I don't think it's a good idea to use a music player as hard disc ...
