Hello,

I want to revive this topic: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=1274.0

Is there still no way to get the audio part of an avi file?
I use my iPod for storage purposes, and would like to listen to some of this videos...

Nothing possible?

Thank you

Why exactly did you post this in an "Installation/Removal" section?

Use a PC tool to extract the audio from the video file.

Well that is what I am currently doing but I see no reason for that.
If the iPod does not have the power to read the video stream, I should still be able to read the audio from the container no?

Thanks

Yep, but in that case it would need to understand the audio container -- which it doesn't do. Adding support for the container (avi) only for such a limited use case isn't worth the work IMO.

And as far as I know does Rockbox detect the needed codec by the file extension. Which also won't work for audio tracks in a container.
