gbsystem/fwimg/fwimg01.dat
« on: April 17, 2008, 04:50:23 PM »
Ok I have a gigabeat F. I was trying to uninstall with the intention of reinstalling Rockbox. Basically what I did was deleted everything except the Recycle bin and system volume information. When I try to reinstall Rockbox I get an error could not find firmware g/gbsystem/fwimg/fwimg01.dat
Now, I HAVE read through some of the other peoples threads but the more I read the more confusing things get. Obviously the person who started that thread didnt know what he was doing and I get even more confused.
So to reiterate, The only thing I have on my gigabeat now is recycle bin and system volume information. I tried to delete that too but its being used so it wouldn't delete haha.
please help because i cant work out without music. i cant listen to that hip hop shit they play at the gym. someone save me please. thank you.

Those are both special folders of windows. They have nothing special to do with your player, and are not required -- the Gigabeat requires the firmware image in the folder GBSYSTEM with the filename FWIMG01.DAT -- exactly the file your player now can't find anymore.

You need to put your player in recovery mode and restore the firmware file. I can't tell you how exactly this works as I don't own a Gigabeat. It's somewhere on the wiki available.

Ok found a link to do a recovery. here it is.

http://www.rockbox.org/tw...abeat_Recovery_Procedures

Also found a link on how to remove the back panel and here it is

http://www.angelfire.com/bug2/gigabeat/

Now. My only problem is i dont have the cd that came with the gigabeat. Will the fwimg01.dat file I downloaded be good enough or does anyone here have the whole GBSYSTEM file?? I would appreciate it. thanks.

Ok It appears that I need the whole GBSYSTEM file. Will anyone who has the cd be willing to upload it to me? Thanks.

If you don't care on not be able to run the OF anymore you can also use the dummy firmware files found on the same page as the recovery procedure.

Ok quick question. What does OF stand for.

Here:

http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/ProjectGlossary#OF

It stands for Original Firmware.  Give the link a click, though.  It's a glossary of terms used in this project.

Edit: I will also mention that you should use the "modify" button (like I have just now) if no one has posted since your last post.

I don't know if this is inappropriate or not, but if you do want the OF available still, you *could* ask someone nicely to copy their firmware files and send them to you.

You *may* even be able to search using Google and see if anyone has them uploaded somewhere, or if Toshiba has the most recent firmware upgrade available for download still.

Toshiba doesnt have the firmware available, I checked. They do for newer models though. I ended up downloading the dummy firmware files instead.
