The image that's used currently can be found in the source tree.  If you compile your own build the you can simply switch out the appropriate image from /apps/bitmaps/native/

LogoSwapper, if I recall correctly, is a Windows program that allows you to swap the image out of the compiled binary.  I have never used it and it's not directly a part of Rockbox.

This is the wiki page for LogoSwapper, and it includes a link to SVN for the original bitmaps:

well yes I tried it but it only allows you the original image by an image that is from the same size. and i'd like to use the whole screen.

therefore I'll see what I can do to compile my own. but what is it actually that you are compiling when you make one of your own, some sort of secondary bootloader?

No, you're compiling an entire alternate build. The splash screen doesn't display until after you leave the bootloader and Rockbox itself is starting.

You'll need to use SVN to update your copy of the source to the newest version, and recompile, any time you want to update your build as long as you want to keep the custom splash.

i like Cabbie v3 as a simple, clean, professional and polished looking theme. (i have a black ipod 5.5 80GB). Also I really don't like the default splash screen/logo. This should be a centred, two-tone (or yellow, black, grey for colour targets) version of jeanreno's 'box with 'r' made by a crotchet' design, with a centred revision number underneath*. Bad design choices spoil the fine edges of rockbox, to my mind, although those aren't really that important in the scheme of things i guess.

(edit) * with a black or zero-color background. That's my tuppence worth  :D

as of yesterday the background color IS black. you're using an outdated version of rockbox  ;D
(btw: I think the logo needs a white outline now.)

we can't use jeanreno's logo as nobody managed to contact him and we have no license for the logo.

oops. Current build is black at back. sorry!........  damn it!  I'm sooo like, april 24th  ;)
By the way did she or he copyright the design of that 'R' cube?  I just thought it was an attractive and clever design and much suited to the open and 'rotatable' nature of the project. I have some designs I might post sometime, free of restrictions

If it can be described as a creative work, yes.
