Upgrade HD in JB 20
« on: October 14, 2005, 03:45:08 AM »
Hi everybody,

I have the JB Studio 20 an would like to upgrade the HD to 80 or 100 GB to store all of my MP3's.

I've found the manual for upgrading the JB 6000.

Does anybody happen to know whether upgrading works the same way with the JB 20 and if the JB 20 will work with 80 or 100 GB HD's?

Or ist there by any chance somebody from the Rhein-Main area in Germany who might be willing to assist me when de-/reassembling the JB 20, since I'm not that experienced with that stuff.

Thanks a Lot
Jörg

The procedure is the same for all Studio models. It's very simple.

Yes, it will work with drives up to 137MB capacity.

Where did 137GB come from?

Thank you for this information, but this answer could use some further explanation -- 137GB is a magic number of some kind.

Is this an IDE controller limitation?  A limitation imposed by the filesystem?  Something else?

If this is a software-imposed limit, what are the avenues to explore for changing the software to increase this limit so larger HDs can be used?

Thanks.

137GB by the Hd manufactorers equals 128GB by us normals.

And yes, it is a limit imposed by the IDE-ATA bridge hardware. The file system as well as Rockbox could very well deal with larger data amounts.
