Iriver H10 battery problem
« on: April 08, 2008, 05:46:26 PM »
Hello, I bought a new Iriver H10 6Gb 2 days ago and I installed Rockbox. I charged the battery using the USB cable, but the battery lasts 30 minutes. (Beside that, rockbox is awesome!)

I made a battery bench (it's attached), while playing several mp3s and one Flac. I think the battery have some problems... do I need a new battery?

Thanks for your help.

I somewhat doubt your H10 is "new", since it's been out of production for at least a couple years now I believe, and the battery not holding a proper charge suggests that it's been badly abused.  I had a similar thing happen to my H10, and once I replaced the stock battery, the run-time improved greatly.  (My H10 is the 20 GB model, internal battery, by the way.  You may have an easier time finding replacements for the 6 GB model as it uses an external battery.)

Welp, my iriver H10 20GB is out of commission again.

I know it is out of production, but believe me, the plastics, ther cables and everything is new, not even one scratch. Also the box was sealed.

Beside that... yeah, I think I need a new battery

those batteries go bad of age, not usage. So if it has been in a warehouse for two years untouched, the battery will be equally bad.

That's what I was thinking.  :'( let's hope the warranty covers those problems.

Also, where I can find cheap but good new batteries? The Hong Kong ones on ebay are good?

Thanks for your help.

I found this thread (on misticriver)

... http://www.misticriver.net/forums/h-10-h-20-series/51749-us-h10-5gb-overheating-when-plugged-wont-hold-charge.html

I didn't thought the overheating was not normal... so it's possible that my player is faulty :(

Ok, the new battery arrived yesterday. It's a bigger one(950 maH) and I set Rockbox to the max capacity for the battery (900...). I fully charged it, and then I ran a battery benchmark. I don't have it now, but it lasted 45 minutes, just like the old battery. The voltages dropped pretty fast...

So, the question is, my player is defective or I just bought another defective battery?

Thanks for your help...

Pretty sure the player is defective. I assume the same thing happens in the original firmware?

Carefully remove all traces of rockbox before returning it with the original battery!!!

I still hadn't the time to try the new battery with the OF. I'll try later.

Ok, I tested the new battery with the original (and ugly) firmware. IT lasts the same time as rockbox. So, it's confirmed... my iriver just drains the battery very fast while it's in use. I also checked the voltage of the full charged old battery after 4 days of no use and it does keep the charge.

So, I think I just got a bad and hungry H10...  :(
