Gigabeat f40: Formatting
« on: April 10, 2008, 07:23:07 AM »
Hi,
I'm using Windows XP and currently have Rockbox running on my Gigabeat f40.
I don't know how i got it, but today i found out, that there is a virus on my Gigabeat called "Shipup.A" and when i try to remove it with an antivirus software it always turns up again.
So, I wanted to format the player, but when i open the format dialog in winxp, the only option to format the drive as is "NTFS". How can i get windows to format it as fat32?

You need something called either "SwissKnife" or "Fat32format". Googling for either should prove fruitful.

Thanks for the reply, i went right on and got it (i mean swissknife).
Is it safe to just format the gigabeat or do i have to worry about something? Like the system forlder be gone after formatting... Can i just format it, copy a backup of my rockbox folder on it and it will work properly again?

You should definitely back up the GBSYSTEM folder - or things on your gigabeat will break.

I fixed the problem, formatting wasn't the solution though.
If anyone might have problems of the same nature regarding this "Shipup" Virus, read about it here and follow the instructions.
