Tracks are being auto-labeled and mistagged.
« on: April 13, 2008, 05:22:54 PM »
Hi. I installed rockbox and I'm very happy with it. I am using the Video iPod: 30gb version. There are only a few problems im having. My main concern is that my audio tracks are being incorrectly tagged. I manually named them on my computer but they aren't labeled the same on Rockbox. Can I stop Rockbox from editing my track names? Also; I can't seem to find any of my Mp4 files (videos) to play. What am I not doing right? I also have another problem; my alarm comes on and works fine unless my iPod is plugged in and charging. Is there any way I can keep my iPod charging over night and have my alarm wake me up in the morning, or will I have to unplug the charger if I want my alarm to come on?  Thanks for your time and all help/suggestions will be much appreciated.

Rockbox does not change tags (in fact it cannot). Perhaps you should use a better tagging program to verify the actual metadata is right.

HE-AAC files should show up, I think.  They just may not play at full speed.

fri, you didn't mention whether or not you're getting entries in the database that look like
Code: [Select]
< Untagged >
.

Also, if you check the versions that you have on your computer with a proper tagging tool can you verify that they are properly tagged?  I have seen situations where iTunes will not write metadata tags to the file, but will store the info in its own database.

---This is the problem with mine. Numerous tracks are popping up as >untagged. However, once I get on iTunes and Anapod Exporer my songs are all properly tagged, as well as in the old apple firmware.

It is known that iTunes stores at least *some* tagging information in the iTunes database on the iPod - which means that the music files themselves are NOT tagged.

Rockbox only plays mpeg-2 videos.  If you want to view videos in Rockbox then you need to transcode them to the proper format.  You can view the PluginMpegplayer page on the wiki for some ways to do this.  However, due to lack of documentation, Rockbox does not use the Broadcom video decoder chip that the Apple firmware uses to decode video.  Due to this you will not achieve the same performance (e.g. frame rate) that you get using the Apple firmware.  I believe that many (most?) 5g (or 5.5g) iPod users boot into the Apple firmware to watch video.

You will find some useful resources at this page: http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/UsefulTools#MP3_Tagging_Organization
