Sansa e260 Power Down
« on: April 13, 2008, 09:17:03 AM »
1st time poster, been using Rockbox for a couple weeks and love it!  Main reason I went to Rockbox originally was to be able to use the 8GB chip in my Sansa e260.  But I really love the look and sound, higher columes and better bass.

OK, my question;

Is it a bug or by design?  When I have my e260 plugged into the cig lighter with an adapter, I cannot power down the unit.  The power button does not work at all.  Nothing.  If I unplug it and push the button I can power it down. Bug or by design?

Unrelated, I left it on pause the yesterday attached to the adapter in the car.  When I came back after a short while, it was dead!  Nothing no lights, not able to power on, etc.  I pulled the battery to check the voltage (it was fine), put the battery back in and it started working fine.  It must have done a reset when I pulled the battery out?

Its a bug, but it'll probably go away when the rockbox USB mode and charger stuff is added/enabled.

Sounds like it crashed with the backlight off.  Try holding power for 15+ seconds and it should reboot.

Thanks for the reply.

It wouldn't reboot no matter how long I held the power button, but once I pulled the battery and put back in it is now working fine....

Holding power for more than 15 seconds is a hardware power off, so if Rockbox crashed with the back light off, holding power for ages (15 - 30 seconds normally) should turn it off, then power again as normal should turn it on again.

Anyway, glad it is working again either way.

I've actually had the 'dead until battery removal' happen to my e200 after I left it in the car as well.   I've been using rockbox on my player since 2 months or so before it has sound, so believe me I know the 15 second power off trick, but for some reason, this one time it didn't work.  I have not been able to reproduce it, so I never said anything, but it *does* happen.

Same here. Every once in a while a complete freeze-up that requires a screwdrive. I suspect it is a hardware freeze-up?
