Sansa e250 Memory Card and m3u playlists
« on: April 11, 2008, 04:26:47 AM »
Apologies if this issue has been discussed before. I tried searching the forum and received a database error.

Is there an issue with m3u playlists and the memory card on the Sansa players. I load a folder of music onto the card and a corresponding m3u playlist. But when I tried to click on the playlist and play them back, I get an error message saying no file.

Conversely, when I do the same thing with music that is loaded in the internal memory, it works as I would expect.

I looked at the playlist in a text editor. The paths seemed to be right, at least from a relative standpoint. I tried moving the playlist to the main memory. I also tried editing the paths and moving the playlist file up to the root, where the playlist of all the songs on the player resides.

Does anyone have any other suggestions about how I might get this work?

TIA,

KS

If the playlist entries use absolute paths (i.e., they start with a drive letter or a slash), they won't work, as files on the memory card are located in a special folder when viewed in Rockbox. Include that folder name in the playlist, or use relative paths.

Thanks for your quick response. I'm sorry to be a bit slow, but could you perhaps spell things out a little more for me with a couple of examples.

Let's say my card is called ""

The music relevant to the play list is located in a sub-directory two levels down.

First sub directory is called "Audio"

Next directory is called "playlist 1"

That's where the songs are.

What should the path look like and should it matter what directory the playlist is physically located in as long as the path is right?

One solution is to put the playlist in the "Audio" folder. Then each entry in the playlist would start with "playlist 1/", followed by the file name. If you create the playlist with Foobar2000, it will save it like this.

Otherwise, you'll need to modify the playlist so that each entry starts with "(microSD1)/Audio/playlist 1/", followed by the file name (and note that I used different "brackets" around "microSD1" to avoid limitations in the forum software... :) ).

With respect to the second method you spell out, I'm pretty sure I did this and then when I tried to actuate the playlist, it would go to the wps and I'd get a "no file" message.

If I'm using the second of the two methods you describe, does it matter where the playlist resides?

Okay. I think I solved it. It was a mix of ignorance and pilot error.

So the hard path playlist can reside anywhere (or so it would seem), as long as you get the hard path correct  :)

Relative path must be one directory above the one it relates to, yes?

I'm glad you got it to work.  I just want to remind you to modify your post if no one has posted a reply.  You should give the forum guidelines a read too -- in the Announcements forum.

Welcome.   :)
