Track troubles (MP3)
« on: April 08, 2008, 03:15:10 PM »
(Info in signature)

First of all, I really enjoy Rockbox, thanks for putting the effort into making it awesome! But my issue goes like this: I have a few songs on my Rockboxed iPod that have wierd things that happen to them. Because they are rips, they are MP3s encoded at 96kbps but when I play these songs rockbox states the song is roughly 14 minutes (really about 4) and it jumps to random parts of the song as I play it. These are MP3s that I'm sure of have worked before on my PC and original iPod Nano firmware. Any help is appreciated. Oh, and I am going to update build later today.

Do other files play correctly?  It sounds like it, but I want to make sure.  I have not encountered this behavior before.  Maybe a developer will be interested in taking a look at one of the problem files.

Yeah it's only specific files, its saying this 96kbps MP3s and MP2/MP1 with really random bitrates. The theme I'm using tells me the format/bitrate and I noticed that a few songs were acting strangely. If someone wants to see some example files just let me know. I upgraded to r17040 and not much has changed, in fact it seems as if a few more files are doing it now.

I'm going to transcode to Ogg Vorbis at a constant bitrate and see if that fixes it.

I would very much like to see those files.

Please upload one or more files to a public server where we can find them, or PM me for a more discrete way of transferring them.

There are several tools which will go through an MP3 and check for errors.  I recently found TidyMP3, which seems pretty good.  The page also provides links to two other tools.
