Sorry for cutting in. I just saw this post.
I wonder if it's possible to get TTA (True Audio) format into Rockbox.

I think it is. Looks like normal ANSI C without mallocs to me:
http://tta.sourceforge.net/codec.hardware
From their site:
--- Quote ---The True Audio (TTA) - is currently the only lossless codec that accomodates the possibility of real-time hardware encoding.
--- End quote ---
Doesn't rockbox encode to wavpack in realtime?
GodEater:
Last I heard it did yes...

I wonder if they mean something else by hardware encoding. This picture from their site seems to indicate that encoding performance is pretty equal, with the exception of FLAC, but they are all well above real-time.
Their quote above also mentions hardware playback (presumably decoding), but with no pictures to back this up. I know that FLAC is slower in encoding because it is specifically designed to be very efficient and therefore lightweight in decoding.
So what exactly do they mean by their claims of super efficiency for hardware support; actual encoder/decoder chips?
* bascule is confused
Llorean:
Maybe it means it in the same context as a "real-time OS"?
