Problem viewing pictures and videos on Sansa e270
(1/1)
Zengotten:
I downloaded Rock Box yesterday because I found that the sandisk firmware was very feature challenged, After installing Rock Box and seeing that it is exactly what I was looking for I found that I could not open any of my pictures or videos, when before on the Sandisk firmware I could. Does Rock Box support formats other than .jpg and .mpg? If not then I think I will be forced to go back to the default firmware so that I can open my pictures and videos, : (. I was also looking for something that would support animated GIFs and flash SWFs, is there any way Rock Box can support those formats?

I guess you'll be "forced" to go back to the stink Sansa firmware. Keep in mind that Rockbox on the Sansa can dual-boot, meaning you can choose which one you want to use at start-up. See the e200 wiki page for more knowings:

Zengotten:
I was looking for at least 30 minutes for any information regarding this topic and all I could find was that default Rock Box only supported .mpg and .jpg, but I thought that since this is open source software there would have to be some sort of plugin that added more format support than that, especially if the normal firmware for my player had it.
So how long does it usually take for someone to fulfill someones request for a plugin?
Rock Box is great, it's just the limited format support, : (

Maybe for video this is true but for audio it's the only reason I bought a e280. Gapless FLAC playback is all I wanted and amazingly this is the only firmware that offers it. Time lengths for features are variable as this is an all volunteer project, and people just work on whatever they feel like working on. Like I said, though, you can dual-boot and continue to use the Sandisk firmware for your videos, or you could even, most likely, find a way to batch convert all of your videos to MPEG and run Rockbox without a hitch.
Llorean:
The original firmware has just as limited format support. You're converting it when you copy them over, you just don't know it.
