Running .txt Files with Code in Them?

(1/1)

mlogans91:
Title is pretty self-expanitority. If I have a .txt file with HTML or some other type of code in them, is it possible to run the code?

cool_walking_:
Uh... no.

Code doesn't just magically run.  Someone has to have already coded an interpreter for that language, and to my knowledge, there are 0 interpreters available for Rockbox.

HTML isn't really "code" anyway (it doesn't "run"), it's a markup language, sort of like a document format.

Strife89:
With that said, it would be interesting if Rockbox had something to read HTML files.

Hey, even you guys would benefit from having the manual readable on the player, right? ;)

Chronon:
There's already a feature request for an HTML viewer (FS#2909).  There's also a patch (FS#7114) that strips out HTML tags and generates a text file that's viewable in Rockbox.  I have not tested it, so I can't comment on how useful that is.

I also found a forum topic where this idea is discussed: http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=8550.0.
