Sansa e260 bookmarking
« on: March 29, 2008, 02:45:38 AM »
Can you please check if you can create bookmarks? I just got a refurb 260 and I can't seem to make bookmarks. Thanks...

Edit:  I split this out from another topic - BigBambi

Klapaucius, what happens when you tell Rockbox to make a bookmark?  How does it fail?  What revision is this?

Hi Chronon,

When I enter the bookmark menu, I see the field for "create new bookmark." I have attempted to select it using all of the buttons and absolutely nothing happens. Thinking this was normal, I went to the general bookmark menu only to be told that bookmarks do not exist. I have set the auto options to create bookmarks on stop and all that, but they still don't appear in the bookmark list.

I used the automatic installation method, so I'm not sure what revision that put on, but presumably the most recent.

I also can't seem to make playlists show up, although I know it is creating them because I can see the raw files when I hook it up to the computer.  I cannot, however, find the bookmark file in this manner.

Finally, is there a method of booting into the sansa firmware by holding down a combination of keys, or some such thing?

Thanks for any help.

I don't know about the rest of your post, but this part is easy.  Just hold down the "left"/"rewind"/"<<" button while the player is booting to boot into the OF.  There's no combination or anything once you're already in rockbox if that's what you're asking--you have to restart the device.

You can check the revision by going to System >Rockbox Info or System > Version.  Try updating your build and verify that it happens with the current build.  For what it's worth, bookmarking works fine on my e280.

Are you using the database or the file browser?  Bookmarking only works from the file browser currently.

Thanks for the ideas. I'll try installing rockbox again soon. In the meantime, I can get dual boot working with the shortcut (thanks!).

BigBambi, I was trying to bookmark from database, so I guess it makes sense that it doesn't work. After tweaking the file view settings to see the music folder, it now appears that I can finally create bookmarks!

Thanks everyone!

Cool, I'm glad you can use it.  You can unhide the Music folder, but everytime you boot the OF it will hide it again.  As you have discovered you can either set file view to all in Rockbox, or you can use a different folder (such as Audio), which the OF will not hide, but the OF will still find all the songs for it's database (if for some mad reason you wanted to use it  :P).
