Possible to switch between rockbox menus and regular menus?
(1/1)
sublex:
Yes, I own a iPod Nano, and whilst on Rockbox, and I want to go back to my regular menu, all I need to do is hold menu and the select button (restart the iPod), and turn on the hold when it shows the logo.
Is it possible to do this vice versa?
Thanks!
AlexP:
Rockbox isn't just changing the menus, it is a complete replacement firmware. You cannot take parts of Rockbox and parts of the Apple firmware and mix them. As you have seen you can dual boot Rockbox and the original firmware.

I think he was asking about reversing the boot order. This does not make sense due to various reasons:
- Once you booted the Apple firmware you need to reset the Ipod to go back to Rockbox. If you had Rockbox running previously you'll go to Rockbox, if the last OS used was Apples you'll get Apples.
- You _don't_ shutdown Rockbox by holding Menu + Select. This makes a hard reset, and Rockbox will loose all unsaved settings by this. To switch from Rockbox to Apple shutdown the Ipod (by holding Play, as the manual tells) and afterwards power it up again, flipping the hold switch to boot Apples Firmware.
- This is about Rockbox, and we want to use Rockbox. It doesn't make any sense (to the devs) to boot the OF first, plus, as I stated above, there is really no need as you need to explicitly do some steps to switch firmwares.
(sidenote: you _could_ change the boot order of the bootloader, but if you choose to do so you're on your own. It also requires rebuilding (i.e. compiling) the bootloader. Check the wiki if you want to dig into this.)

Ah, OK, it wasn't clear to me from the post :)
