Disk Tidy - Include Original Firmware files/directories?
« on: March 27, 2008, 11:02:06 AM »
I've just added a Sansa C240 to my collection of Rockbox players (well iRiver an H320 and my wife's H120) and I was wondering about adding the files/directories that it's original firmware created to the things that Disk Tidy cleans up.

It maybe that I'm being ham-fisted or with the arrogance of years of experience I havent paid enough attention to the manual/forums for the C240 but these files appear every time I do a USB connect (which at the moment uses the Original Firmware).

I haven't looked at the code, but assuming it's well written like the rest of Rockbox it should be fairly easy to add these.

So does anyone else think it is worth it?

Are there any other files/directories that other Firmwaress put down that should be considered?
(I'm thinking about the iRiver Recordings directory)

Let me know...

Right now, adding more files for Disktidy to look for will require you to edit the source for it. I have recently done so to add in initial support for Linux file manager files; the first ones I added are .dolphinview files created by Dolphin. See FS#8595 for the patch.

There's another patch in Flyspray to make Disktidy read off files to look for from a config file; see FS#8637 for more information.

Yes, I saw your messages about that when I searched to make sure I wasn't asking about somehting already covered. But I forgot to look in Flyspray - doh

If someone has already done the configurable on that's probably the ideal solution, I was just thinking of using the device type conditionals in the source.

I have now spotted that there may be a way of doing USB without the OF doing its database re-scan (I'm guessing that this is the process that created the files/directories) and when Rockbox USB is finished the problem will go away (like the iRivers I'll never see the OF).

I think that the firmware may generate some base files if they do not exist, whether or not it rebuilds its database.  For instance, the iPod firmware generates the iPod_Control folder and subfolders at runtime if they do not exist (also, I believe, Notes, Calendars, Contacts folders).
