iAudio D2 DAB
« on: March 26, 2008, 02:41:52 AM »
I am very excited about the prospect of having Rockbox on my iAudio D2 DAB but there is a couple of questions I would like to ask.

I live in london england and have the iAudio D2 DAB mp3 player, can anyone tell me if this model will be supported by Rockbox or is it just for the non DAB models.

If so does anyone know if the DAB radio will ever be able to work using Rockbox.

Many thanks for any replies.

1) What will be supported depends entirely on volunteer effort: If people, like you, who own the hardware put the effort in, it's more likely to happen.

2) Questions about players Rockbox does not yet run on really don't belong outside the thread for that player in the New Ports forum. Which should only be used by people actually working on the development, to keep it clean so they can easily communicate.

(Llorean: as there doesn't seem to be a 'correct' place to ask this kind of question I'll answer it here anyway. It's a question I knew would crop up eventually...)

The D2 I use for development is a DAB model, so yes, if and when a Rockbox port is made available it should run on your player (it also shouldn't matter whether you have a 2, 4, or 8Gb model). There will be no DAB support, at least to begin with, but you will be able to dual-boot to the Cowon firmware if you want to listen to DAB.

In the meantime, until the D2 is a supported target, it is probably best to ask any general questions over in the Rockbox thread at iAudiophile.net.

Well, a question like "Which Cowon D2 hardwares is this being developed for, and are there known distinctions that would require work" would fit quite well in the development thread. Or the wiki could mention that the build is expected to work on the DAB and non-DAB versions.
