Possible sound quality problem with OGG vorbis playback
EricBuist:
Using vorbisgain/mp3gain on my PC, and enabling ReplayGain and clipping prevention on my audio player solved the problem. So this was really an audio clipping problem. I'm happy I will not have to try reencoding my OGG files to MP3, test with Rockbox and the OF, etc.

Replaygain is not just normalization, and if you are not using it, you must anticipate distortion. You have reported distortion.

I've never heard of distortion caused from not using repalygain. Is this Rockbox-specific? And would you advise turning it on even if my track don't have the info?
EricBuist:
I recently had the same problem with MP3 files, and even with the original firmware. This really seems to be an intermittent problem with my earphones, not Rockbox-specific.
ReplayGain should not do anything if the appropriate information is not encoded into the tags of the media files.

Try google.

No, it is intrinsic to the process of decoding a lossy audio file.

It won't do anything unless theres tags. Alternatively, you can use a precut to drop the gain a bit, but thats not 100% effective unless you're willing to lower it quite a bit.
