Download error: received HTTP error 404.
« on: July 14, 2008, 11:54:12 AM »
I just recently heard about Rockbox and I have FLAC files I want to play on my e200R.  I thought I would give it a go. Anyway, I downloaded the RB utility (ver 17969 $ (m1.0.6) built Jul 6 2008). I chose "complete installation" and selected my player and drive. My player has firmware version 1.xxx. This is what came up in the progress window:

Starting bootloader installation
Searching for sansas
Downloading file PP5022.mi4
Download error: received HTTP error 404.

I tried multiple times and got the same error. What gives? If it's going to be too much grief, I'll leave the original firmware on there. I'd really like to be able to listen to my FLACs though.

You can't install Rockbox on the e200R with Rockbox Utility at this time.

There are installation instructions for the e200R here. Please read them carefully, and follow along with them.

Once you're done installing, the e200 manual will continue to be your guide.

Thanks for that advice, but now I have a bigger problem. I was following the instructions to a 'T'. Upon entering manufacture mode, I was prompted by Windows to locate driver. I specified the folder I extracted the zip file too. Then after a minute or two I got some error message (code 39 I believe). I don't have it up because I closed it.

Now, none of my buttons are functional. I've tried pressing and holding them all with and without the hold button. The screen remains black or off and the scroll wheel stays lit up. This is very bad.

UPDATE: I was able to reattempt the install. Here are the error messages.

If I try to run e200rpatcher, it cannot find the device. Please assist.

Hold down the power button for a while (30 to 60 seconds) and it should power down. Then just try to power it on normally.

Strife89,

I was able to get past that part, but am still unable to get the driver to install correctly. I've tried several times, but keep getting error messages (see the messages in my last post). If someone could shed some light on this, I'd really appreciate it.

Thanks for your help.

Pull up a window EXACTLY like the window in your second screenshot. Right click on the device and choose "Uninstall". Proceed to uninstall the drivers for the device from Windows. (Don't worry, this should not affect your Sansa.) Reboot your computer and try connecting again, and this time ignore the "Found New Hardware" window if it comes up. Just try to go through the (Rockbox) install procedure.

I did this with an internal Wi-Fi adapter that was part of a laptop (i.e., integrated Wi-Fi) that refused to work suddenly. After the uninstall, Windows found the "backup" driver on the hard drive and installed it; now the owner's Wi-Fi works fine. :)
