Problem with frozen screen in IPOD 1st Gen
« on: March 21, 2008, 10:06:34 PM »
Yesterday I updated the rockbox and it just stops with a screen showing a Rockbox vertical message in the lower right side of the screen.

I reinstalled the bootloader but it keeps doing the same. Any ideas on what can I do? It is possible to download old versions of rockbox so I can test it?

Any help would be really appreciated.

Ok, I was able to change to a screen where it is showing a message.

After it displays the boot loader version (2.0)

Loading Lnux...

Are you using a current build and the install method from the manual?

P.S. Please don't double post. Use the modify button if no one has posted since you.

I downloaded the current build and then just unzipped directly to the drive of the IPOD. That is what I've been doing since I first installed several months ago.

Can you boot into the original firmware?

If not, can you connect to the computer by rebooting and then holding select+play right after?

The message you're getting is a bootloader message. If you simply updated Rockbox, the bootloader hasn't changed and there should be no reason this message would pop up. As well, this message only shows up when trying to load linux, which only happens if you hold down the "Play" button while booting.

Could it be possible you're accidentally pressing the button, or your iPod have developed a hardware problem?

Yes I am able to run the original firmware.

And I can also start the IPOD in HD mode.

When I try to start in Rockbox mode I just get a frozen screen, no error message, just this "ROCKbox" message in the screen (Small, Vertical and in the lower right side of the screen)

Is it possible to download an old build, let's say from a week ago? I updated a Sansa C200 and it just can't finish the boot.

Both the IPOD and the C200 had problems with the current build.

Sounds like the backdrop bmp used for the cabbie theme, but missing the menu.

Ah, just delete config.cfg in the .rockbox folder to reset your settings. It sounds like you're having theme problems.
