clarification about non-offiacal builds
« on: March 20, 2008, 05:37:32 PM »
What is your attitude about non-offical builds? is it taboo or is it just not supported here? thanks.

p.s. if i take a .rock program from a non-offical build and put it in my rockbox folder without compiling or anything like it will it work on my rockbox?

I'm not sure exactly what you're asking, but I think that you will probably find these two sticky posts in the Unsupported Builds forum to be helpful:

http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=5971.0
http://forums.rockbox.org/index.php?topic=13463.0

Essentially, discussion of unsupported builds is limited to the specific thread in the Unsupported Builds forum related to that build.  Discussion in any other forum should relate to the official builds.

simple answer is no... it does depend on what is actually changed in the custom build though. if the patches were done correctly then the official build wont try to load the plugin if its known to be incompatible. otherwise worst case is it will crash or just not work. (it might work though)

Using PMs to annoy devs about bugs/patches is not a good way to have the issue looked at.
