putting music on the iPod without itunes (was: I feel like an idiot...)

(1/1)

TS2Master:
I've forgotten how to get music onto my iPod! Seriously.

I don't use and never have used iTunes, and remember I didnt need it when I first put Rockbox on my new iPod Video 30GB.

I use foobar2000 as my music player, and thought I had a plugin that did it from there. It doesn't appear to be the way I used to do it though.

Then I thought mabye it just acts as a hard drive like my old Creative Zen, but no, its got the crazy Apple folder muddley crap.

Windows Media Player, I'm sure wasn't the way. So I'm at a loss.

Anyone got any recommendations of how they put music on their iPod without iTunes.

Please don't tell me to just download and install iTunes, as I am more interested in how I did it last time rather than doing it with iTunes...

Hope someone has some pointers.  :)

Strife89:
First of all, do you intend to listen to your music with Rockbox, the original firmware, or both?

I also assume you only have Windows (and not Linux)?

TS2Master:
Windows. Yes, rockbox of course. :)

I realised that I could just use it as a HDD. All sorted now thanks. ;D

I am such a tit.

Strife89:
Not a problem. We all have those "dumb moments". I once forgot how to tilt the bottle back up while I was pouring a glass of Coke!! ;)

By the way (this is for future reference), I know of no way to load music for the Apple firmware from Windows other than iTunes, but gtkpod can load music on all but the most recent iPods (OF, of course) (it's a Linux program; I use it to load my friend's iPod Shuffle :) ).
