idea: powersaver plugin
« on: March 18, 2008, 04:04:26 PM »
I think of a plugin for long train rides, which has only a mininum of functionality.

What the plugin will do/have:
- minimum ui: exit the plugin, skip to next song, volume
- disable backlight
- no display updates
- ?

Any other ideas or comments?

Don't think you need a plugin a simple wps and a configuration file could do this!

Or simply leave the WPS and stay within the main menu -- this is how the battery runtimes reach their maximum.

Good idea, I'll try this out.

This is what I've done.
But it needs a lot of actions to simply change the volume (when the train is entering a tunnel) for example: take out the player, release hold, go back to wps, set volume, enter main menu, hold, put player back into my pocket.

"Release hold, press play, adjust volume, press menu." All you're taking out of it is "Press play" and "Press menu" by doing it a much more complicated way, right?

Or you could just stay in the Sound Settings -> Volume menu. No need to go back to the WPS.

Maybe a complete empty WPS could give you more juice, but I am not sure how the updates are done codewise between the WPS (even empty) and a menu screen.

The good side of using an empty WPS is that you can still skip and control volume without changing to another screen.
