trouble installing
« on: March 17, 2008, 09:08:54 PM »
I have the e250r and got through step 1 with the driver and the patch. On step 2 where it want of.mi4 to be copied to the system folder I'm stuck at. Everytime I try it says access denied. Keeps listing it as read only. Tried removing the read only but it keeps resetting. Any suggestions?

#  Copy pp5022.mi4 to the root of your device
#  Copy OF.mi4 to the "system" folder within your device (make sure you have set Windows to "Show hidden files")

Some questions who's answers might help you get some help:

- So you managed to copy pp5022.mi4 but it's giving you problems with OF.mi4?
- It's the SYSTEM folder that's read-only?
- Perhaps you're not logged in as Administrator and that's why it doesn't allow you to change the setting?
- What operating system are you using?  (Linux/Windows/OSX/etc)?
- What is the exact error message you are being given?

haven't copied any files yet. I'm using XP. The system folder is listed as read only tried to change it but it resets. The only way I know to get to administrator is safe mode. the only user on this computer and it suppose to be an admin. Says write protected.

Did you make sure you've set the Sansa firmware to MSC/Rhapsody mode?  What is Windows calling the device in explorer?

Well I'm out of ideas... Maybe searching the rest of the internet will turn something up for you... My gut says it's a permission issue though...

How do I find out if I have Administrator rights on my Windows XP or Windows 2000 computer?

From the START button, choose ADMINISTRATION tools. This should be right under CONTROL PANEL. If you do not have this option, you probably do not have ADMINISTRATIVE rights and need to contact your computer support group to assist in download and installation. If you do have the ADMINISTRATION tools, click on it and choose COMPUTER MANAGEMENT, then GROUPS. Click on the ADMINISTRATORS group and see if your login account name is listed.

I have the admin tools. went to computer management but don't see groups I get system tools, storage, and services and applications. I agree it's a permission issue but can't seem to get read only unchecked.

I think those instructions meant:

Computer Management -> Local Users and Groups -> Groups -> Administrators -> Look for your name.

Oops, missed a step:

Computer Management -> System Tools -> Local Users and Groups -> Groups -> Administrators -> Look for your name.

I'm off to bed now, good luck, and like I said earlier this is an issue you'd probably have better luck resolving by searching the internet at large.

still don't see local user. Did manage to get it to work. Went and created a new user and with that user was able to copy the file into the system folder even though it was still read only. Tested and it works. Thank you so much for the help. One last question. On the sandisk firmware I always click albums and then play all but on the rockbox I don't see that option under albums. Is it possible?

I'm not really sure what you mean, but most new-user questions can be answered either by the manual (http://www.rockbox.org/manual.shtml) or the documentation index (http://www.rockbox.org/twiki/bin/view/Main/DocsIndex).  If you still have questions after searching around, pick the right forum and post your question.

Salut,
Marc
