problem with mp2 files on iPod Mini 1stGen

(1/1)

giuseppedm:
I installed Rockbox on my 1stGen 4GB iPod Mini (on Mac OSX), mainly so I could listen to mp2 files I record from my DVB-S card without having to transcode. It works pretty well, except that when I pause while listening to mp2 files it frequently hangs for a few dozen seconds. It always happens if I pause during the first minute or so of the recording, and less frequently if I pause after the first minute. I tried changing ID tags through iTunes, no changes after that either. Also, sometimes the fast forward doesn't work on mp2 if I don't pause them first, so it's pretty frustrating...
Any ideas/suggestions? Thanks.

Are you using the standard build? What revision? (This can be seen in System->Rockbox Info OR System->Version)

I listen to a lot of large DVB-S mp2 files on my Nano (1st gen) and
here a have a similar problem: Once I start the file, the unit
becomes very unresponsive until it's cache is filled. This takes
many seconds. After that's done for the first time, pausing and
forwarding works great.

Is you "harddisk access" icon displayed when you have this
problems?

Then the behaviour might be normal...

BTW, this get's worse the higher the bitrate gets. So BBC Radio
at 192k and BFBS at 128k work great, but German Radio at 320k
requires more patience.

giuseppedm:
I've now noticed that the harddisk access icon is indeed displayed when I have those problems with mp2 files. I can navigate the menus fine while that icon is displayed, but if I pause or select another track the unit becomes totally unresponsive (for up to a minute if I started playing 320kb/s mp2 files, less for lower bitrates). I've had none of those problems with big mp3 files (usually 60-80 mins at 128kb/s), so it seems to be limited to mp2's.

I'm using the standard build and the latest release available on the website yesterday. I've also tried older releases but the problems with mp2 files were the same.
