Apple/iTunes has an update 1.3 for 5.5G iPod -- wish me luck

I'm gonna be the guinea pig on this one.

EDIT:

Ran ipodpatcher, uninstall
Updated firmware to 1.3
Ran ipodpatcher, install

Rockbox booted, no immediate problems noted, screens look good, songs play fine.

Don't know what was fixed or changed with 1.3.

Did it have any effect on performance or playback issues that some have been reporting?

IIRC, the firmware updates or the firmware of the actual Apple OS will not affect the functioning of rockbox as it just uses the bootloader. However, if Apple disabled something with the bootloader or such, it would cause problems with rockbox.

Note that I think that most of that's right...

That's my understanding as well.  If we can understand how to properly initialize all of the hardware in our bootloader then we will not be dependent upon changes in their bootloader since we can just re-initialize all of the hardware into a known state.  However, I believe that we still rely upon some initialization performed by their bootloader.  

Changes to the Apple firmware code should have no effect on the functioning of Rockbox since it never gets run if Rockbox gets properly loaded.
