In order for it to be shown in My Computer you need to tell iTunes to "Enable disk use".  Make sure that's set if you want to access the ipod as an external drive.

The white lines almost sound like a bad connection.  It might be worth trying to open the unit up and reseat the cable that connects the LCD to the board.  That's my first suspicion given that this was replaced recently.

well I can still use it in disk mode and it now comes on my computer. it even starts to synchronise my songs..
though when i start my ipod it shows these white lines, just like when I connect my ipod to the computer with the hold button on.

I put it on disk mode, and am now letting the battery run dead. because I can't turn it off or anything.
it's like he wants to start but he can't because there is no program to start.

how can i put the ipod software back on the ipod? I used the restore and it completed succseffully, but when i turned it on, the white ligns came on the apple logo.

what is with the ipodpatcher? do I need it as some sort of booting program

I am TOTALLY new at this...

If you restored it, iTunes should have put the firmware back onto your iPod and wiped all traces of Rockbox from the iPod.  Your current problem does not have anything to do with Rockbox.  However, it doesn't sound like iTunes properly restored your iPod.  Was the iPod cleared of all media files and the .rockbox folder?

I'm saying that if it didn't remove all of the media folders plus Rockbox related files then it did not restore your player.  It will create the iPod_Control directory and other directories that originally come on your iPod, but any files that you added should be absent.  If that's not the case then iTunes did not do its job.

I just checked it and it made the following files

Calenders
Contacts
Ipod_control
Notes

though it still doesn't work...
I can always put it in disk mode, that's no problem but i can't start it up. I just get the apple logo that stays there and that lign start to appear

Yes, but did it also remove all the files you put on there?

Please note, I'm not asking you to delete them yourself, I'm asking if this was the result of running iTunes restore or not. Deleting them yourself won't help.

If it didn't, then the restore did not work properly, and you should try it again.

yep these are the only files on the ipod.
there is nothing left

though on my computer it looks like it is a normal ipod, it synhronises etc. because everything was of the ipod.

I just can't start him. I will try again and let you know what happened.

NOTE: i used the ipod software 1.3
itunes asked me if i wanted to restore and it usd the 1.3. did i maybe need to use a previous software?

------

I just restored the ipod again. everything was going great. it completed succsesfully and gave me a msg that it has set the ipod to factory settings and that I have to wait untill my ipod was finished. I saw a progress bar on the ipod, and waited untill it was finished. when it ws finished it restarted and the apple logo came on....and then, there was just the apple logo and the white ligns started to appear again.

I'm sure it's not. It worked on rockbox just fine.
though there is a different screen in it, as it needed to be replaced, but that was ages ago, it was also the moment that a friend put rockbox onto the ipod.

I always have those white ligns when i put my ipod (when I had rockbox) in my computer with the hold button on.

how come then that I can't start my ipod, do I need some sort of bootloader? or is it because I used the 1.3 software?

Is iTunes possibly loading a modified firmware?  I'm leaning toward damage as well, though I can't explain why it should behave under Rockbox and not under Apple's firmware.  Go ahead and install an earlier version of the Apple firmware if you can find one.

I'm running low on ideas here.

well, i have downloaded the ipodsetup 1.1, which has been recommended by rockbox when other versions don't work.
I have it, it is on my desktop, I used it and installed it, though nothing really different happens, it just shows a wizard and then it sayd I need to restart my computer. but I don't think it did anything to my ipod.

I still have the disk and I will see if the ipodsoftware is on there and run that exe.

maybe I should start it by itunes instead of just opening the exe.

pff, i'm so new to all this stuff

Out of curiousity, how long are you waiting after trying to start the apple firmware before deciding it's not working, and restarting ?

how do you mean exactly?
I tried it several times and it didn't work. eg: yesterday i restored it, and it didn't work it just stood there on the apple logo. I let the battery run dry. I charged it up today and let it synchronise, though at itunes it looks like I have the original ipod software on it.

when it was synchronised and charged, i restarted it again and still just the apple logo that comes on.
I tried restoring it again, it finished succesfully and after finishing restoring, it restarted and still just the apple logo.

Well you could try reseating the LCD.  It's possible that a bad connection is causing this.  Other than that I don't really have any more suggestions to you.  You have successfully removed Rockbox.  The restore function seems to have completed properly.  Your iPod just seems to have some problem associated with the LCD.  Maybe a component went bad?

It seems that you might have more luck from this point with an iPod specific technical support forum.
