IpodPatcher.exe cannot find my 5.5g
« on: March 14, 2008, 04:41:30 PM »
My Ipod is plugged in and in disk mode. I can actually see it in My computer. According to windows its a FAT32 partition. However when I run ipodpatcher.exe I get this error message.

Quote
[INFO] Scanning disk devices...
[ERR] No ipods found, aborting
[ERR] Please connect you ipod and ensure it is in disk mode
[ERR] Please refer to the rockbox manual if you continue to have problems

Press ENTER to exit the ipodpather:

Any ideas? I've read the manual and I can't find anything about it. I've tried it on 2 different Admin accounts.

Are you sure it is a 5.5G iPod?

If you are unfamiliar - http://ipodlinux.org/Generations does a very nice job of describing not just the internal, but also the external differences between iPods.

Yes. I'm sure. MY main evidence is that it has the search feature. Plus many other applications such as ipodwizard won't recognize it since, according to the help file, its 5.5g.

I'd imagine the iPod Classic also has the search feature, they're not in the habit of removing features.

But its not an Ipod classic its a Ipod video. The search feature doesn't appear in the 5g video only the 5.5.

That's why we were asking if you've double checked against that page to be sure. It is quite common that people get those two types of iPods confused, as they both play video and come in 80gb capacity.

Well that particular webpage isn't loading, but although what I've done in the past wasn't rockbox related it still required me to know whether my ipod was a 5g or 5.5g, so I'm positive I have a 5.5g. I'll leave the webpage loading though and double check to be sure.

Simple way of finding out: is the front of the iPod metal or glossy plastic?

I guess it was just the computer I'm on. I have no idea. I'm running rockbox now. I used a different computer and boom. Both are XP

So I guess you do have an iPod video, then.
